In between his busy campaign schedule, former special assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go took time to visit and comfort fire victims in Barangay South Cembo in Makati City.
A fire that hit a residential area on Monday night destroyed 20 houses and displaced at least 36 families.
“Galing po ako sa isang rally sa Antipolo, Rizal pero nabalitaan ko may nasunungan dito sa Makati (I have just been to a rally in Antipolo, Rizal and I heard that a fire hit Makati),” Go said on Tuesday.
Go attended the Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) regional party kick off rally for its senatorial slate in Antipolo City in Rizal. He rushed later to a Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan rally to join hisparty mates.
Go reiterated that helping fire victims take higher priority than pursuing his senatorial campaign.
“Kaya hininto ko muna pansamantala ngayon yung pangangampanya at nagpunta po ako dito para magbigyan kaagad ng atensyon ang kanilang mga problema, at maparating kaagad sa mga kinauukulan ang kanilang mga hinaing upang mabigyan kaagad ng tulong itong mga nasunugan (I stopped campaigning and went here [in Makati] to give immediate attention to their problems, and communicate their needs to concerned government agencies),” Go said.
After attending a rally in San Fernando, Pampanga on the first campaign sortie of the HNP, Go rushed to Pasay City to comfort fire victims before going to the next HNP engagement in Angeles city.
Go earlier vowed to help fire victims anywhere in the country.
“Pangako ko yan eh. Noon, ngayon at kung saan man ako ipadpad ng aking tadhana. Kahit saang eskinita, papasukin ko para makapagbigay ng serbisyo at tulong sa inyo (That is my vow. No matter where fate leads me, I will enter any street or alley to serve),” he said.
One of Go’s legislative programs is to promote fire protection and prevention.
He called on fire victims who need medical attention to go to Malasakit Centers where they can be treated for free.
A program of the Duterte administration based on Go’s initiative, a Malasakit Center makes it easier and faster for poor patients to avail of medical and financial assistance from government agencies such as the Department of Health, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office and Philippine Health Insurance Corp.
