MANILA, Philippines — A policeman was arrested in a buy-bust operation in Sampaloc, Manila on Thursday night after authorities received a report that he was allegedly trying to sell “shabu” (crystal meth) in an apartment.
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Friday that the operation against PO1 Ferdinand Rafael stemmed from the complaint of a concerned citizen who said that a supposed police officer was frequently visiting his room to sell illegal drugs.
Police said investigation showed that Rafael was indeed an active officer assigned at the District Admin Holding Unit of the Manila Police District.
Policemen also said that they have secured a video showing Rafael allegedly sniffing “shabu” when they launched a surveillance on the suspect.
Recovered from Rafael were 11 pieces of small packs containing suspected “shabu” estimated to weigh 15 grams worth P102,000, a digital weighing scale, assorted drug paraphernalia, and the buy-bust money worth P1,000.
The suspect was brought to the Regional Drug Enforcement Unit of the NCRPO for disposition, as he also faces cases in violation of the Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. /jpv
