WrestleMania 36 to take place in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla — WWE confirmed Thursday that WrestleMania 36 will take place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida on April 5, 2020.

WWE’s annual showcase will emanate from the home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, marking the third time in nine years that the WWE’s biggest annual card will be held in the state of Florida. All told, it will be the fourth time WrestleMania will be held in the state of Florida, following two events at the Citrus Bowl/Camping World Stadium in Orlando (2008 and 2017) and one at Sun Life Stadium (now Hard Rock Stadium) in Miami in 2012.

The Tampa Bay Sports Commission submitted a bid in May 2018, requesting to host WrestleMania in either 2023, 2024 or 2025, but was willing to hold the event even earlier if requested.

While it is the first time Tampa will host a WrestleMania, the area is very familiar with hosting major events, including four Super Bowls. Tampa will host the Super Bowl for the fifth time (Super Bowl LV) in 2021.

This event is the latest indication of the importance of the state of Florida to the WWE’s plans. WWE’s Performance Center is located just outside of Orlando and frequently holds cards from its NXT brand in the Orlando area and throughout Florida.

The festivities of WrestleMania 36 will include events throughout the week of April 5 in Tampa, including WWE’s annual WrestleMania AXXESS fan convention, the WWE Hall of Fame and shows from their Monday Night Raw, SmackDown and NXT brands.
