FOUR people were injured and about 30 families were displaced as fires hit Quezon City and Makati, police said on Tuesday.

The fire in San Antonio, Quezon City started at 10 a.m. and was declared under control at 2:55 p.m.

It was raised to Task Force Bravo alert level at 12:41 noon, injuring four and destroying about 150 houses made of light materials and affecting 450 families. Damage were estimated at P1.5 million.

Initial investigation of the Bureau of Fire Protection showed that the fire started at a 3-storey house owned by Alex Sarmiento at 1154 West Riverside, Barangay San Antonio, Quezon City. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Sarmiento, 45, sustained a first degree burn on the left upper forearm while Dionisia Rabago, 51, sustained a 1st degree burn on the right arm; Roy Sarmiento, 49, sustained a 1st degree burn on the left forearm, Jay Beltera, 38, sustained a minor burn on the left forearm. No other casualties have been reported.

Thirty families were left homeless in Makati where a fire razed their houses at the South Cembo Village.

The fire, which started at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, destroyed properties amounting to more than P1.5 million, according to Makati City Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

The BFP said the 2-hour fire reached third alarm before a fire out.

Fire marshal Roy Quisto said firefighters were met with difficulty in controlling the fire as the pathways were too narrow for firetrucks and other equipment.

Officials said no one was hurt during the incident but there were several people who experienced difficulties in breathing because of fumes.

The victims were brought to an evacuation center while investigators have yet to find out the cause of the fire. DIVINA DELA CRUZ, NEIL JAYSON N. SERVALLOS
