THE Luzon grid will be placed on yellow alert this Tuesday because of limited power generation and higher demand, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) declared on Tuesday.
The alert will be up from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
“[The] Luzon grid is on yellow alert due to the unexpected shutdown and limited generation of some power plants, and high power demand,” the country’s grid operator said in an advisory.
Available capacity is 10,115 megawatts (MW) while peak demand is 9,491 MW.
A yellow alert, the second highest, is declared when the reserves are less than the capacity of the biggest plant online, which is 647 MW for Luzon. JORDEENE B. LAGARE
