A man in eastern China was arrested for causing a delay in his plane flight after he allegedly threw coins in the engine for a “safe journey.”
Lucky Air said that authorities found two 1-yuan coins near the airplane’s port engine last Feb. 17, causing the airline to cancel the flight at an airport in the Anhui province. This was reported by the Xinan Evening News via The South China Morning Post on Friday, Feb. 22.
According to the report, a 28-year-old man identified as Lu admitted to the crime, and was later held by the police. He said he threw the coins “in [hopes] of a safe journey.”
“The incident caused a direct economic loss of nearly 140,000 yuan (almost P1.1 million), and our company will press charges against the passenger in accordance with the law,” the airline said.
Because of the incident, all 162 passengers had to wait to fly to the southern Yunnan province the next day. Lu faces criminal charges for his deed. Katrina Hallare /ra
