He always made it a point to attend rites to commemorate the People Power revolt, but on Monday, former president Fidel Ramos was a no-show at the EDSA event due to health reasons.
Pastor Saycon, a member of the Edsa People Power Commission, said Ramos was supposed to attend this year’s commemoration but he canceled.
“We are sad that because of the conditions of his body, he was not able to attend [the 33rd anniversary of Edsa People Power] and even his book launching last time in Club Filipino, he was not there as well,” Saycon told reporters.
“We only ask that everyone pray for him and we hope he will be here in future Edsa anniversaries,” he added.
The book, titled Silver Linings: The Continuing Saga of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution, was a tribute to the Philippine National Police’s Special Action Force.
Saycon said Ramos, 92, has weakened.
“He leads a spartan life, and he has given so much service for this country,” he said.
Traditionally, the civilian, religious and military sectors would reenact the “Salubungan,” to depict the meeting of civilians and soldiers during the EDSA revolt.
Ramos had joined the reenactment in past years.
Last year, he did his notable jump at the end of the commemoration.
