TYPHOON “Wutip” may enter the Philippines on Thursday and will be named locally as “Betty,” the state-run weather bureau said on Monday.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical, Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Wutip was 1,440 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora. Wutip is expected to move closer at 1,675 km east of Southern Luzon outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Tuesday, at 1,570 km east of Southern Luzon outside of PAR on Wednesday, Pagasa’s latest forecast said.
Wutip was spotted 1,740 kilometers east of Southern Luzon, outside PAR on Monday morning moving “slowly” at northwest direction with maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 225 kph.
At the moment, Wutip poses no direct threat to any part of the country, Pagasa said. DIVINA NOVA JOY DELA CRUZ
