POLICE will be deploying about 2,000 personnel across Metro Manila on Monday during the commemoration of the 33rd EDSA People Power Revolution, National Capital Region Police Office Director Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar said in a press conference.
Eleazar said that aside from the commemorative program scheduled at the EDSA Shrine, police would also be deployed in areas where protest actions would be conducted such as in Mendiola.
“For tomorrow, ito talaga yung (this is really) ‘The Day’ natin so we just want to be sure na (that) everything will be in order so mag-de-deploy tayo (we are deploying), aside from the deployment of more than a thousand personnel here in QCPD, some of them will be deployed on places na (that) historically nagkakaroon ng mga rallies (rallies are staged),” Eleazar said.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced previously the closure of one lane of EDSA in front of People Power Monument to vehicular traffic from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Monday. Number coding will also be suspended.
Eleazar said that the only the commemorative program at the EDSA Shrine at 8 a.m. on Monday has been scheduled but police would still monitor other areas in Manila to ensure order amid the anticipated protests actions.
“We are expecting VIPs and guests and other invited guests to attend to that. Pero regarding protest rally, we are not wala naman pinaalam sa atin. But just the same we are deploying siguro (maybe) more or less 2,000 personnel coming not only from QCPD [Quezon City Police District]but the regional workforce 4th Battalion and sa ibang (in other) places here in Metro Manila like in Manila, dun sa may mendiola o magtitingin din tayo dun sa mga lugar na posibleng nagkaroon ng (in Mendiola or we’ll look for other places where there is possibility of) lightning rally for the reason na we don’t want na pag magkaroon ng rally, is magkaroon ito ng inconvenience sa ating mga riding public, sa motorista at iba pang nandun sa lugar na yun (we don’t want that rallies would cause inconvenience to the riding public, motorists and other people in those areas),” Eleazar said.
