MALACAÑANG on Thursday condoled with the family of National Artist, Architect Francisco “Bobby” Manosa.
Manosa, 88, died on Wednesday from a lingering illness.
In a statement, Palace spokesman Salvador Panelo said the legacy of Manosa would continue.
“Architect Mañosa will be missed but his influence and legacy will continue to live on. May perpetual light shine upon him as we pray for the repose of his soul,” Panelo said.
Panelo paid homage to the work of Manosa and underlined his nationalist attitude.
He said the title Father of Philippine Neo-vernacular Architecture was well-deserved for Manosa.
“He devoted his lifetime work championing the extensive use of indigenous Filipino materials in his design. He popularized the bahay kubo and the bahay na bato, which became motifs in contemporary Filipino architecture,” Panelo said.
“His most famous work is the iconic Coconut Palace, which became the former office of the Vice President of the Philippines,” the spokesman said.
President Rodrigo Duterte named Manosa as National Artist for Architecture last October.
The Order of National Artists was established under Proclamation 1001 (s. 1972) to give appropriate recognition and prestige to Filipinos who have distinguished themselves and made outstanding contributions to Philippine arts and letters. RALPH EDWIN U. VILLANUEVA
