Businessman slain on Edsa filed case for grave threat before death

MANILA, Philippines — The businessman murdered in broad daylight on Edsa last Sunday had filed a complaint for grave threat before he was gunned down with his driver, the chief of the Mandaluyong City police revealed Tuesday.
Jose Luis Yulo and his driver Allan Nomer Santos were on a Toyota Grandia when they were shot by motorcycle-riding gunmen in front of VRP Medical Center in Mandaluyong City on Feb. 17.
“Among the data we received are cases filed against the victim and also cases filed by the victim,” Senior Supt. Moises Villaceran Jr., chief of the Mandaluyong City Police Station, told INQUIRER.net.
Villaceran said Yulo was facing 14 complaints for bouncing checks. He also filed a case for grave threat.
The police official said investigators were coordinating with the courts regarding the cases to know when they were filed and the parties involved.
Villaceran also disclosed that investigators found a .38-caliber revolver and 12 bullets inside a bag that Yulo was carrying when he was ambushed.
He said probers were looking into why Yulo was carrying a firearm amid an election gun ban.
The slain businessman was a namesake of Jose Luis U. Yulo Jr., president of the Chamber of Commerce of the Philippine Islands. /cbb
