BAGUIO CITY: Police over the weekend found packed cocaine in Camarines Norte, a week after authorities found the same illegal drug within the coast near Dinagat Islands.
Sr. Supt. Bernard Banac, Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesman, said a civilian found the brick-like package within the shoreline of Paracale in Bagumbayan village at about 7:20 p.m. on Saturday.
Quoting a report from the Bicol police regional office, Banac said the civilian, whom he identified as Norly Laudiana Sorian, turned over the item wrapped in brown duct tape with marking “Lexus” to the Paracale Municipal Police Station and eventually handed over to the Provincial Police Crime Laboratory.
At about 3 a.m., Banac said the package tested positive for the cocaine that weighed about 989.23 grams with an estimated value of about P5 million.
In a statement, Banac said police was commending “another good deed of a peace loving and vigilant Filipino for voluntarily reporting to the police another brick of cocaine washed ashore.”
“Thus we continue to call on all residents of all our coastline communities across the nation including all fishermen and seafarers to remain vigilant and continue reporting to the police suspicious items they may find washed ashore or floating in the sea,” he said.
The block of cocaine was found days after a fisherman on Siargao, Dinagat Islands also spotted 37 blocks of cocaine amounting to P457 million. DEMPSEY REYES
