Malacañang on Friday lauded the passage of the proposed 2019 national budget in Congress and promised review the measure to ensure compliance with the Constitution prior to enactment into law.
“We welcome the passage of Congress of the 2019 national budget,” presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in a statement.
“We assure the nation that the Executive branch upon its receipt of the enrolled General Appropriations Bill will thoroughly review the same to ensure that all items comply with the Constitution and the law, and more importantly, they redound to the benefit of the Filipino people,” he added.
Congress ratified the proposed P3.757-trillion national budget for 2019 Friday after months of delay. The budget bill, passed before Congress went on recess for the May elections, will be submitted to the President for approval.
Panelo said the Palace was pleased that the two houses of Congress have reconciled their differences and passed the budget proposal. “Indeed there is no obstacle we cannot hurdle if we put our hearts to it, with only the interest of the Filipino people in mind,” he said.
He said the 2019 national budget was “essential in building a bright future for our nation and for our people.” The measure also lays the foundation for an inclusive growth and sustainable development, he added. (Genalyn Kabiling)
