PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte visited the grave of his mother, Soledad Roa Duterte, at the Roman Catholic Public Cemetery in his hometown Davao City to mark her seventh death anniversary.
Duterte lit candles with his former top aide and senatorial aspirant Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go.
Soledad Duterte, who died in 2012, was a dedicated teacher in Davao City and was actively involved in socio-civic activities.
In a text message, Go said that the President arrived at the cemetery at about 11:30 p.m. on Monday following his meeting with the the families of soldiers killed in the twin explosions in Jolo, Sulu, and in the encounter between the government and the Abu Sayyaf in Patikul, Sulu on February 2.
It has been the President’s tradition to visit his mother’s final resting place on All Saints’ Day and on other occasions.
In 2016, Duterte wept at his mother’s grave hours after partial vote count showed his insurmountable lead in the May 9, 2016 presidential elections.
