Mighty Sports Philippines needed to fend off the gritty Homenetmen Beirut Basketball Club of Lebanon, 96-89, to remain unbeaten in the 30th Dubai International Basketball Championship at the Shabab Al-Ahli Sports Club in United Arab Emirates on Sunday night (Monday morning in Manila).

The Filipino ball club went to Jeremiah Gray, Randolph Morris and Justin Brownlee to overcome the Walter Hodge-led Lebanese champion for its third win in as many outings.

Filipino-American wingman Gray racked up 24 points built around three triples to go with eight rebounds and three assists while American center Morris also tallied 24 markers on top of nine boards, four dimes and two steals.

PBA mainstay import Brownlee provided a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds along with seven assists and two steals.

The trio got ample support from collegiate star Juan Gomez De LiaƱo and heady Fil-Am guard Jason Brickman, who chipped in 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Mighty spoiled the scoring explosion of Lebanese League MVP Hodge, who had a game-high 42 points on an efficient 14-of-21 shooting clip.

The Charles Tiu-coached team enjoyed a 16-point lead in the third quarter but Hodge-powered Homenetmen cut it down to just three, 89-92, late in the game.

Brownlee came up clutch and drained four free throws to seal the hard-earned win.

Mighty is having a one-day break before going back to action against Al-Wahda Sports Club of Syria for its final group stage match.

The Philippine representative previously beat American University in Dubai, 87-58, and the UAE national team, 86-78.
