Jordan Peele Makes a Great Rod Serling in the First Teaser for ‘The Twilight Zone’

In the midst of a truly boring-as-shit Super Bowl, something unexpected happened: At one point, the camera feed glitched, the entire crowd vanished, and suddenly, Jordan Peele was there, standing alone in the middle of Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. It wasn’t real, obviously. It was just a pre-taped clip to promote CBS’s upcoming Twilight Zone reboot, which is actually kind of a bummer—watching Peele wander around the field for a few hours probably would’ve been more interesting than the game itself.
But unbearably lame Super Bowl aside, the minute-long teaser finally gave us a first look at Peele filling Rod Serling’s loafers as the host of the new Twilight Zone—and it seems like he’s going to crush the hell out of it.
“Witness an empty space, filled with thousands of screaming people. A man, both nowhere and everywhere at the same time, answers our new questions,” Peele says, nailing that classic Serling delivery while also somehow bringing ASMR vibes to the whole thing. “The unthinkable is the expected. When truth is not the truth, what dimension are you even in?”
A familiar-looking white door suddenly appears on the field and Peele steps through, disappearing into the ether as the Twilight Zone theme kicks in. It’s an excellent teaser for the series premiering next April, even though it doesn’t feature any of the many, many, many actors set to appear in the show.
The new Twilight Zone already has a pretty stacked cast list, including Kumail Nanjiani, Steven Yeun, Allison Tolman, Ike Barinholtz Jessica Williams, John Cho, and Adam Scott—who’s taking over for William Shatner in a remake of “Nightmare at 30,000 Feet”—among others.
The series is set to drop April 1 on CBS All Access. Until then, watch Peele in the clip above and be thankful that he’s at least going to be a better Rod Serling than Forest Whitaker.
