16 firms issued cease and desist orders, notices of violation for polluting Manila Bay

SIXTEEN more establishments were found polluting Manila Bay because of waste they were discharging directly into the bay, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said on Thursday.
The Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA), one of the agencies tasked to rehabilitate Manila Bay, said these establishments violated provisions of Republic Act 4850 or LLDA Act of 1966, which included not conforming with the Effluent Standards for Class “SB” waters, according to the DENR.
“SB” quality refers to water fit for ecotourism or recreational activities, including swimming, bathing and diving.
Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu said that both the DENR and the LLDA issued a total of 22 orders against the 16 establishments.
The LLDA recommended cease and desist orders on four establishments, three with ex-parte orders, eight Notices of Violation for water pollution and seven Notices of Violation of other provisions under RA 4850.
Given cease and desist orders were: Billion Bldg./Phil. Billion Real Estate Development Corp., HK Sun Plaza, Tramway Bayview Buffet Restaurant along Roxas Boulevard; and D Circle Hotel in Malate, Manila.
Ex-parte orders were issued to Le Mirage De Malate, Builders 200 Inc; Smart Land Resources, and Malate Bayview Mansion, all in Malate, Manila.
Notices of Violation for water pollution were sent to Sogo Hotel, Quirino; Government Service Insurance System in Pasay City; Peak Motors Phils. Inc.; Makchang Korean Restaurant; 2Blue Realty Corp.; Cebuana Lhuillier Building, Robinsons Place Manila, and Rizal Park Hotel.
The DENR and LLDA will also send Notices of Violations to Billion Bldg./Phil. Billion Real Estate Development Corp.; Smart Land Residences, Malate Bayview Mansion, Makchang Korean Restaurant, 2Blue Realty Corp., Cebuana Lhuillier Building, and Summit Ice Inc. for failing to comply with some of the provisions of RA 4850, such as failing to secure LLDA clearance and discharge permit:
