SAUDI Arabia executed a Filipina household worker guilty of murder, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Thursday.
In a statement, the DFA extends its condolences to the family of the unnamed Filipina whose sentence,
Ambassador Adnan Alonto said, was carried out on Tuesday.
The DFA declined media queries to identify her. “I’m sorry we cannot release additional details on the request of her next of kin,” said Assistant Secretary Elmer Cato.
He said the DFA had informed the next of kin “who have requested for privacy during their time of bereavement.”
“The Department regrets that it was not able to save the life of the Filipina after the Saudi Supreme Judicial Council classified her case as one in which blood money does not apply under Shariah law,” Cato said.
Alonto said the Philippine embassy also provided her with a lawyer to assist her in all stages of her trial, sent representatives to visit her, and provided her family in the Philippines with regular updates about her case.
