Robbery suspect dead in Manila shootout

A ROBBERY suspect was killed in a shootout with police in Sta. Cruz, Manila, in the wee hours of Wednesday.
Police said the still unidentified suspect was declared dead on arrival at Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center after he engaged the cops in a gunfight.

Initial investigation showed that prior to the shootout, the suspect t held up 21-year-old Buendin Corpuz on Herrera Street corner Lacson Avenue at about 3:10 a.m. Wednesday. At gunpoint, the suspect took the victim’s belt bag containing P1,200 and pertinent documents.

The victim was able to seek help from policemen patrolling in the area.
As one of the lawmen alighted from the police vehicle to chase the suspect, the latter fired his gun but missed. This prompted Police Officer 1 Gilbert Pasto to return fire, hitting the gunman.

The suspect’s body was brought to Arch Angel Funeral Homes for safekeeping and forensic services. (Ria Fernandez)
