THE Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has expedited the partial lifting of the deployment ban for overseas Filipino workers in Libya to January 31, 2019, with actual deployment starting a day after.
POEA Administrator Bernard Olalia said the improved situation in the
North African country warranted the lifting of the ban 15 days earlier. The ban was to have been lifted on February 15.
“Actually pwede na now,” Olalia told the Manila Times, referring to
the processing of deployment papers of OFWs bound to Libya.
The administrator, however, said because it was a partial lifting of the ban, only those classified BMs (balik
manggagawa) may be allowed to be deployed in Libya.
Total lifting of the ban can be done if there are no more incidences of
violence recorded within six months, the POEA said.
The Philippine Overseas Labor Office in Tripoli and Benghazi will now
start processing entry permits of OFWs who will return.
Almost 100 percent of Filipinos deployed in the country are skilled, working mostly as oil rig workers and medical staff, the POEA said.
