Harden hits 30 in final minutes, extends streak

James Harden has his 24th straight game with at least 30 points as the Rockets fall to the Pelicans at home Tuesday night. (1:02)

Rockets star James Harden extended his streak of scoring at least 30 points to 24 games on Tuesday night, reaching the mark with a 3-pointer in the final minutes of a 121-116 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans in Houston.

James Harden is the fourth player in NBA history with 600 points, 100 rebounds and 100 assists in a calendar month:

Harden scored his 30th point with 1:53 left and finished with 37 points to go with 11 rebounds and 6 assists. He struggled from the field, shooting 11-of-32 (34.4 percent), tied for the second-lowest shooting percentage during his 30-point streak.

Harden owns the fourth-longest streak of 30-point games in NBA history, surpassed only by Wilt Chamberlain, who has three streaks longer, including a record 65.

Harden finished the month of January averaging 43.6 points per game, the highest scoring average in a month since Chamberlain averaged 45.8 in March 1963, according to Elias Sports Bureau.

Pelicans forward Anthony Davis has been fined $50,000 by the NBA after his agent, Rich Paul, told ESPN of his client’s desire to be traded, a violation of the collective bargaining agreement.

Harden also became the fourth player in NBA history with 600 points, 100 rebounds and 100 assists in a calendar month, according to Elias. He joins Jerry West, who pulled the feat in 17 games in December 1965; Oscar Robertson, who did it in 20 games in February 1962; and Elgin Baylor, who did it in 20 games in December 1961, according to Elias. Tuesday marked Harden’s 14th game in January.

Harden has scored at least 35 points in 11 straight games, the fifth-longest streak in NBA history and the longest since Kobe Bryant in 2002-03 (13 games).

The Rockets are 17-7 during Harden’s streak.
