PUV operators ordered to beef up security in terminals

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has ordered Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) operators to install safety equipment inside their terminals for the protection of commuters.

The DOTr issued the order on Tuesday following the bombing of a church in Jolo, Sulu that killed at least 20 people and wounded at least 100 others.

The military has released images of the bombing suspects from closed circuit television footages.

“Bunsod ng insidente ng pambobomba sa Jolo, Sulu at ng iba pang tangkang panggugulo, inaatasan ng Department of Transportation (DOTr) at ng Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board ang lahat ng Public Utility Vehicle operators na maglagay sa mga terminal ng akmang kagamitang pangkaligtasan,” the DOTr said.

The transportation department also called on the public to be vigilant.

“Pinapayuhan din ang mga commuters na maging mapagmatyag sa mga terminal at sa loob ng mga pampublikong sasakyan, at agad iulat ang mga kahina-hinalang indibidwal o kagamitan sa mga otoridad,” the department said.

(The public is also urged to be more vigilant in terminals and public utility vehicles and report to authorities suspicious individuals and items).
