At 12:12 p.m. EST today (9:12 a.m. PST), Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced on its Facebook page that the interest to sponsor form for the 2019 Parent and Grandparent Program is now closed.
When the new intake process was announced a few weeks ago, IRCC called it a “new and improved intake process that provides a first-in-first-served approach for 2019.”
Guess it depends on how fast your internet provider or typing skills are.
Hundreds of frustrated people took to the Facebook page to express their discontent
One user Sokunthea Hin wrote “I have prepared everything, and I was waiting 1 hr before the opening hour. Still I cannot submit it because the form is already closed. It’s really unfair. It’s frustrating.”
User Sandra Fernández Mesa wrote “This is ridiculous. I filled all the info and in less than 15 min the form was closed. I cannot believe 27 000 people filled this form in less than 15 min.”
Some users had better luck accessing the form on their phone but still weren’t able to fill it out in time: Betsy Magdayo Barreyro writes: “I have been refreshing thru website and it didn’t open but when I did on my phone thru the link on fb it was late already.”
Anatoliy Franchuk wrote: “What a farce this is! Is this a cruel joke from IRCC? I’ve been camped at the computer since the morning, checking incessantly. As soon as form opened I quickly entered all the info. Click Submit and get “the form is now closed. ”How can this be possible? How can 20,000 applications be received in less than 10 minutes? Do you have to be a typing champion of the world to qualify? Something very shady is going on dear IRCC!!!”
The comments, reaching 1.2 K, continue in the same frustrated vein.
Were you a lucky one?
If, however, you were one of the lucky ones who managed to fill out the form, hit send and get a completion result, you can now wait for the next steps. You should receive an email within 24 hours confirming IRCC received it.
If you’re then invited to formally apply, you will have 60 calendar days from the date of the invitation to ensure IRCC receives your complete application for sponsorship. Find out more about the next steps at: https://www.canada.ca/…/sponsor…/after-apply-next-steps.html
