MANILA, Philippines – INQUIRER.net is taking exception to a meme of a news headline being attributed to the news site to malign the Inquirer brand name.

The meme showing the headline “Same feces, names dominate Senate race” which has been shared on social media is fake.

How it was faked?

An investigation by our IT team concluded that the legitimate news item on INQUIRER.net’s homepage gallery has been copied through screenshot and altered the headline “Same faces, names dominate Senate race” to make it read “Same feces, names dominate Senate race” by using a photo digital editing program.

FEATURED STORIES

The perpetrator/s used the cut-and-paste method, copying one of the “e” letters of the headline and pasted it on the “faces” word.

Early this month, Promo Shopping Bazaar digitally manipulated an INQUIRER.net breaking news story about Catriona Gray bagging the Miss Universe 2018 crown in a competition held in Bangkok last December 17. The e-retailer altered the headline to read: “Catriona Gray was accused of cheating after winning Miss Universe.”
