PHILIPPINE security officials have ordered a lockdown in Jolo, Sulu, a day after a bomb exploded inside a Catholic Church, killing 20 people and wounding 98 others.
“The NHQ (PNP National Headquarters) and SND (Secretary of National Defense Delfin Lorenzana) ordered a lockdown in Jolo Sulu [so] that is why you cannot see anyone in public and all stores are closed,” Philippine National Police Chief Oscar Albayalde said during his visit to Mount Carmel Cathedral, scene of the blast on Sunday at 8:58 a.m.
Albayalde also said that the Improvised Explosive Device (IED) used in the attack was “most probably” cellphone-detonated because of the 12 to 15-second difference between the two explosions.
“We recovered parts of cellphone but we cannot fully say this was cellphone-detonated because there were a lot of phones inside but we suspect it was cellphone-detonated because of the timing,” Albayalde said in Filipino.
Albayalde said an investigation into the perpetrators behind the carnage was ongoing. ROY NARRA
