Game Today
(Calasiao, Pangasinan)
5 p.m. – Ginebra vs Rain or Shine

Raymond Almazan could miss his second straight game tonight when Rain or Shine battles Barangay Ginebra San Miguel in the PBA Philippine Cup’s first out-of-town game at the Calasiao Sports Complex in Pangasinan.

Though he has already participated in recent practices, Almazan isn’t sure if he’ll be available for the 5 p.m. Petron Saturday Special after spraining his ankle before the Rain or Shine’s season-opening win over NLEX last week.

Almazan participated in Gilas Pilipinas’ second practice for the FIBA World Cup Qualifiers last Thursday at the Meralco Gym, though the lanky big man bared that there’s still a bit of discomfort on his part.

The Elasto Painters are eyeing a second straight victory after defeating the Road Warriors, 96-87, last Jan. 18 at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Coach Caloy Garcia drew big games from veteran James Yap who scored 20 points and rookie Javee Mocon with 13 points and five boards.

But Rain or Shine is bracing for a recharged Ginebra side that will attempt to bounce back from Sunday’s 99-91 loss to defending champion San Miguel Beer at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Ginebra tried to rally from a 20-point deficit but ran out of steam late in the contest to force a split of the first two games.

The Kings opened the conference by downing TNT KaTropa, 90-79, at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.

Japeth Aguilar, LA Tenorio, Greg Slaughter and Scottie Thompson are expected to produce most of the numbers in the site of the league’s All-Star Game in late-March.

Aguilar leads Ginebra is scoring at 20.5 points with 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 blocks even as Tenorio will play his 592nd consecutive game that will move him four shy of Alvin Patrimonio’s all-time record.

Slaughter tries to be the major presence in the middle while Thompson enters the contest with averages of 9.0 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists.
