A condemnation facility owner tasked to destroy seized used clothing or “ukay-ukay” was apprehended for reselling the goods, an act prohibited under the law.

A team from the Bureau of Customs and the National Bureau of Investigation arrested Francis Lesaca, the alleged owner of EPY ECO Condemnation Facility at Metrowarehouse Center in Guiguinto, Bulacan.

Lesaca was nabbed in an entrapment operation Thursday for allegedly reselling used clothing that are meant to be destroyed in the facility he owns.

According to Manila International Container Port District Collector Erastus Sandino Austria, boxes of used clothing worth P1 million, allegedly up for sale, were seized from the property.

Armed with a letter of authority and mission order issued by Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero, Customs and National Bureau of Investigation agents inspected the facility on suspicion that it was violating provisions of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.

An asset and an NBI agent pretended to buy used clothing.

The arrest was made after the deal and while the boxes of used clothing were being loaded inside the hired van.

Lesaca was brought to Manila for further questioning and detention. (Betheena Unite)
