Filipino families who experienced hunger dropped in Q4 of 2018–SWS

THE number of Filipino families who experienced hunger decreased in the final quarter of 2018, according to a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey.
Only 10.5 percent or an estimated 2.4 million families experienced involuntary hunger at least once in the past three months.
The figure is 2.8 percentage points lower than the 13.3 percent, or an estimated 3.1 million families, who experienced hunger in September of last year.
Of the 10.5 percent who experienced hunger, approximately 8.9 percent, or 2.1 million families, experienced moderate hunger, while the remaining 1.5 percent experienced severe hunger.
Families who experienced moderate hunger declined by 1.7 percentage points compared to the 10.6 percent figure in September.
This is the lowest since the 8.1 percent in June.
The families who experienced severe hunger decreased by 1.3 percentage points, from the 2.8 percent in September.
It is the lowest since the 1.3 percent in June last year.
The survey, conducted from December 16 to 19, 2018 among 1,440 Filipinos aged 18 years old and above, had sampling error margins of ±2.6 percent for national percentages. RALPH VILLANUEVA
