‘Gun runner’ slain in Nueva Ecija

TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija—An alleged gun runner was killed in a buy-bust operation in Barangay (village) Gulod here about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said Bernie Mamaed, jobless, of Barangay San Pascua in this town, fired at operatives, prompting the lawmen to retaliate.

Investigators recovered the suspect’s gun, several rounds of bullets, a motorcycle, P5,000 buy-bust money and a mobile phone.

Senior Supt. Leon Victor Rosete, Nueva Ecija police director, said the suspect was also involved in a string of robberies. ARMAND GALANG/lzb
