LIZA Diño, Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) chair, is looking forward to expanding the reach of local cinema this year, even as she made clear her efforts to make livelier the celebration of Philippine Cinema’s 100th year.
To this end, the FDCP is supporting the initiative to field more locally made films in international film markets.
“Actually trend na ‘yan ng buong mundo and I’m very happy na Philippines is now seeing this opportunity to expand,” she said in a recent interview.
“’Yung thrust kasi ng FDCP ngayon is to really not just to make films for local audiences, but to also to make films na exportable or pwede mapanood ng ibang lahi sa buong mundo,” she added.
In able to make local filmmakers more competitive, the FDCP is offering different programs that would allow for such.
She said, “Napakarami naming projects this year, pero siyempre ang kailangan namin ay palakihin pa at gawin naming relevant ang celebration of Philippine cinema’s 100th year. So I’m giving emphasis on a lot of training and development programs.”
Then there’s the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino or PPP, which she plans to make much bigger this year.
“The events of FDCP will be the launch of 100th year of Philippine cinema so, imbes na August, it will be on September 11-17. So excited kami sa mga events at sa lahat ng mga activities at siyempre sa line-up ng mga pelikula na magiging kasali this year,” she said. (RAMPADOR ALINDOG)
