A low pressure area brewing outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility near Mindanao is expected to develop into the first tropical depression to enter the country this year, the State weather bureau said Monday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said the LPA was spotted 3,240 kilometers east of Mindanao.
It is expected to enter PAR between Friday or Saturday, PAGASA said.
While the weather system has no direct effect on the country for now, PAGASA said it might possibly develop into a tropical depression and will be locally named “Amang,” the first tropical cyclone to enter the country this month and this year.
PAGASA said that an average of at least 20 tropical cyclones enter the Philippines in a year.
Meanwhile, the tail-end of a cold front affecting the eastern section of Mindanao and the northeast monsoon or “amihan” over Luzon and Visayas are expected to bring rain in most parts of the country Tuesday.
Cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms will prevail over Socsargen and Davao region due to the tail-end of a cold front. (Alexandria San Juan)
