LPA may turn into a storm and enter PAR in a week

MANILA, Philippines — The state weather bureau said it was monitoring a new low pressure area (LPA) that may develop into a storm and enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) by the end of the week.
In its weather report late Saturday, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the new LPA was last spotted 3,400 kilometers east of Mindanao.
The LPA is likely to develop into a storm in the next three days and may enter PAR on Jan. 17 or 18.
It will be given the local name of “Amang,” Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja said.
The LPA is not directly affecting the country, but its trough, or the extension of the LPA, will bring rains over a large portion of Mindanao.
Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or “amihan” is expected to affect parts of Luzon and Visayas.
In the next 24 hours, cloudy skies will prevail over the Bicol Region with light rains due to the northeast monsoon.
For Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains are also expected.
Cloudy skies with light rains may prevail over parts of Visayas. particularly in eastern Visayas due to the northeast monsoon while partly cloudy to cloudy skies are expected over Central and Western Visayas. /atm
