Marinduque gov Carmencita Reyes passes away at 87

MARINDUQUE Governor Carmencita Reyes, known to her constituents as “Nanay”, died of brain aneurysm on Monday, according to a post from the official Facebook page of the provincial government. She was 87.
“Governor Carmencita Ongsiako Reyes peacefully joined her Creator and her husband, former Immigration Commissioner Edmundo Sr. on January 7, 2019,” the post wrote. “Nanay Carmencita will be always remembered for her dedicated and untiring service to the people of Marinduque.”
Reyes served as a Constitutional Convention delegate in 1971. From 1978 to 1984, she served as Interim Batasan Pambansa Assemblywoman for Region 4 and as Batasan Pambansa Assemblywoman for Marinduque from 1984 to 1986.
From 1987 to 1998 and from 2007 to 2010, Reyes was congresswoman for Marinduque and provincial governor from 1998 to 2007 and from 2010 until her death.
Reyes leaves behind five children, 11 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
Vice Governor Romulo Bacorro was sworn in as the new provincial governor.
Reyes’ remains lie in state at Heritage Park and will be brought to Marinduque on Thursday. Interment will follow after a mass at the Sanctuario de San Antonio in Makati City on Friday.
