Comelec disqualifies 70 senatorial aspirants from midterm polls

MANILA, Philippines — At least 70 senatorial aspirants have already been disqualified by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), its spokesman James Jimenez said Tuesday.
Jimenez said the disqualified senatorial aspirants have five days to file an appeal.
“Sa ngayon, mahigit 70 na ang nagkaroon ng ruling ng disqualification sa senatorial candidates,” Jimenez said in an interview with dzMm.
“Ang hinihintay nalang natin ay yung tinatawag na certiifcate of finality. Bawat decision kasi ng disqualification ay binibigyan natin ng parang five days para makapag-apela yung ating mga partido,” he added.
Apart from this, Jimenez that the list of party-list groups who filed their certificates during the October filing went down to 154 from a total of 182.
The number may continue to drop as the commission is still in the process of deliberation, Jimenez said.
The Comelec is set the release the list of candidates for May 2019 midterm elections before January 23. /je
