MANILA, Philippines — The implementation of the higher fines for illegal parking officially starts on Monday, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reminded the public on Sunday.

After more than two weeks of being halted, the MMDA warned the public that stricter fines would now be imposed on those who illegally parked their vehicles.

Based on a regulation released by the agency, the fine for attended vehicles parked illegally is now up to P1,000 from P200. The fine for unattended vehicles, meanwhile, has been raised to P2,000 from P500

Motorists obstructing the road will now have to pay a fine of P1,000 from only P150.

According to the MMDA, vehicle owners can be penalized for illegal parking two times per day with 3-hour interval between issuances.

The initial implementation of the new traffic fines was set last December 19, 2018 but MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia said that the agency is still fixing its system.

Thus, it moved the implementation to January 7, 2019 as per the advice of MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim. /je
