‘Usman’ leaves 126 dead, 75 injured

MANILA, Philippines — At least 120 were killed and 75 others were injured following the wrath of Tropical Depression “Usman” in the country, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRMC) said on Sunday.

In a situational report update, the NDRRMC said that as of 6 a.m. Sunday, the total number of reported deaths due to Usman reached 126 while 75 others were reported injured in Regions IV-B, V, and VIII.

The report also showed that 26 individuals were missing following the aftermath of the tropical depression.

With this, the agency noted that 150,877 families or 657,777 individuals were affected in 952 barangays in Regions IV-A, IV-B, V, and VIII.

At least 13,202 families or 57,945 individuals are currently taking shelter inside the various evacuation centers.

The NDRRMC report also showed that 9,554 houses were damaged due to Usman with 1,617 totally damaged and 7,937 partially damaged in the four provinces that were directly hit.

Estimated damage to agriculture amounts to P4,249,398,276.80 while damage to infrastructure values at P3,300,704,500 in the said four regions in the country.

The agency also reported that 104 areas experienced power interruption since Usman made its landfall in the vicinity of Borongan, Eastern Samar last December 29 2018.

Despite this, the NDRRMC said that 85 cities and municipalities have already restored its power supply. /je
