San Miguel Alab Pilipinas resumes its title defense in Season 9 Asean Basketball League (ABL) as it hosts the Zhuhai Wolf Warriors today at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.
The Filipino ball club looks to extend its best start in franchise history against the cellar-dwelling Chinese team at 7 p.m.
Alab Pilipinas is currently leading in the ten-team league unbeaten in four games.
The defending champion last scored a 77-71 victory over the Singapore Slingers on December 23 at the Caloocan City Sports Complex.
The Jimmy Alapag-mentored Alab will plunge into action with Puerto Rican reinforcements Renaldo Balkman and PJ Ramos on the lead.
Balkman boasts of a league fifth-best 27.0 points and second-best 14.7 rebounds average while the 7-foot-4 Ramos had 21.7 markers and 12.0 boards.
Team veteran and two-time local Most Valuable Player Ray Parks Jr., meanwhile, had 12.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steal.
ABL newcomer Zhuhai, on the other hand, will try to improve its league-worst 1-8 record and sustain the momentum from its breakthrough win.
The Wolf Warriors are coming off a 96-88 win over CLS Knights Indonesia, on December 19 in a home game at the Doumen Gymnasium.
Zhuhai is pinning its hope on local stalwart Cai Chen. World Imports Eric Tisby and Mike Bell, who led the offense in their lone win, are also expected to step up.
Alab’s match against Zhuhai will fire off a grueling schedule of six home games and three road matches this month.
