Justice Tijam, author of quo warranto decision vs Sereno, retires

SUPREME Court Justice Noel Tijam, one of five appointees of President Rodrigo Duterte, retired on Friday.
Tijam was honored in formal ceremonies at the high tribunal en banc led by Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin.
Tijam, who served for close to two years, penned the controversial Quo Warranto decision that ousted then chief justice Maria Lourdes Sereno based on the petition of Solicitor General Jose Calida who questioned the validity of her appointment.
In a vote of 8-6, Sereno’s designation by former president Benigno Aquino 3rd in 2012 was declared void from the beginning.
Tijam was a former judge of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court, became a Court of Appeals justice before his appointment to the high court in February 2017. JOMAR CANLAS
