MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has tightened inspections at fireworks stores and venues for fireworks displays and concerts ahead of the New Year festivities, BFP Spokesperson Fire Supt. Joanne Vallejo said.

We have tightened inspection, especially at firecracker stores, because we want to ensure that we are implementing fire safety measures),” Vallejo said in an interview over DZBB on Monday.

We also tightened safety measures at venues of community fireworks displays and concerts),” she added.

Vallejo added that the BFP is inspecting the entryways and exits in establishments where New Year festivities will be held to ensure the safety of the public.

The BFP is making sure that exits and passageways at event venues are not clogged or closed),” she said.

She likewise reminded the public to stay conscious of their surroundings as they welcome the New Year with fireworks or year-end concerts.

Vallejo noted that the BFP has deployed fire trucks nationwide to remind the public of fire hazards.

(The BFP will continue to implement ‘Oplan Paalala.’ You may have noticed that many firemen and firetrucks are going around this afternoon. Our firetrucks are making noise to remind people to take precautionary measures against fire.) /ee
