THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) encouraged provincial buses plying Edsa to start notifying their passengers that they will no longer be brought directly to their terminals as the “super terminals” will be operational by Feb. 15, 2019.

“It’s a go. Sabihan na nila (passengers),” Michael Salalima, chief of staff of MMDA general manager Jojo Garcia, told the Manila Times in interview.

Construction of the super terminals, in Sta. Rosa City in Laguna for
southbound buses and the other in Valenzuela for northbound, is in
full swing and will be operational on or before end of first quarter
of 2019.

Once completely built, the 23-kilometer Edsa, a major thoroughfare that connects Metro Manila and the suburbs, will be rid of at least 4,500 buses.

Forty-six bus terminals along Edsa will be closed.

“The primordial purpose of these interim terminals is to be able to
remove all provincial bus terminals along Edsa, as this comes with a
presidential directive, and possibly in Metro Manila while we await
the Department of Transportation’s permanent transport terminals like
that of PITX in Paranaque,” the chief of staff added. ED VELASCO
