MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Depression “Usman” weakened into a low pressure area (LPA) after making landfall over Eastern Samar on Saturday morning, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
Weather specialist Aldzcar Aurelio said Usman made landfall over Borongan City at 6 a.m.
The weather bureau located the center of the LPA in vicinity of Llorente, Eastern Samar, at 7 a.m.
Pagasa has lifted all tropical signal warning signals.
However, the weather bureau issued a yellow rainfall warning over southern Quezon, meaning the area will experience moderate to heavy rains that could trigger flash floods and landslides.
Moderate to heavy rain could still be experienced over Calabarzon, Mimaropa, the Bicol Region and Aurora, while light to moderate with at times heavy rain is expected over Metro Manila the rest of central Luzon and Visayas.
Despite the weaker Usman, Pagasa advised fisher folk and those with small seacraft to not venture out over the seaboards of Northern and Central Luzon, the eastern and western seaboards of Southern Luzon and the eastern seaboard of the Visayas due to surge of the northeast monsoon.
The weather bureau expects the LPA to exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Monday morning (Dec. 31). /cbb
