Semirara Mining chief dies at 68

Businessman Victor Alemda Consunji, president and chief operating officer of Semirara Mining and Power Corp., passed away on Friday. He was 68 years old.

Consunji succumbed to pancreatic cancer, an official from the listed firm said on condition of anonymity.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear and beloved Mr. Victor Almeda Consunji on December 27, 2018.,” Semirara told the Philippine Stock Exchange.

At the time of his death, Consunji was also Seminara’s vice-chairman of the board.

Consunji was also a director of DMCI Holdings Inc., the parent company of Semirara Mining. He was also the president and chief operating officer of Semirara Mining units SEM-Calaca Power Corp. and Southwest Luzon Power Generation Corp.

He served as chairman and chief executive officer of DMCI Power Corp.

“Under Mr. Consunji’s leadership he was able to turn around the coal mining operations allowing the corporation to reach new heights [and] paving the way for SMPC to become the only integrated power company in the country,” Semirara said.

His remains lie at the Santuario de San Antonio in Forbes Park, Makati.

Interment is scheduled on Sunday at the Heritage Park in Taguig after a 2:00 p.m. mass at the Santuario de San Antonio.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Orani Suhay Foundation, Inc. in Calle Real, Bataan.

Consunji was born on August 12, 1950 in Manila, Philippines. He was the son of the late David Consunji and Fredesvinda Almeda Consunji.

A graduate of A.B. Political Science at Ateneo de Davao University, Consunji previously worked as chairman of Palm Concepcion Power Corp.

He was also chairman and president of Prominent Fruits, Inc. and Rubber Industries Corp. of the Philippines, and was president of Eagle Cattle Ranch, Inc., Sirawan Food Corp., and South Davao Development Co., Inc.
