Bello to Jollibee: Up your ante, regularize more workers

MANILA, Philippines — Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III on Thursday asked Jollibee Foods Corp. to regularize more workers as he was unimpressed with the fast food giant’s regularization program.
Bello said Jollibee offered to regularize 3,000 workers a year, however, he said he had asked them to match the initiative of SM Malls to absorb 10,000 employees a year.
“In fairness, Jollibee is now regularizing, pero hindi pa ako masyadong completely happy dahil maliit ang kanilang regularization program,” Bellos said in a Palace briefing.
“Sabi ko, please, up your ante. They’re offering to regularize 3,000 a year. Sabi ko kulang. Ang SM kako 10,000 a year eh… baka puwede kako pantayan ninyo – they will study,” he added.
Jollibee topped the list of companies the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) tagged earlier this year as labor-only contracting companies.
According to the list, Jollibee Foods Corporation (JFC) has the most contractual employees, with 14,960 workers. /muf
