TROPICAL Depression Usman slightly intensified, moving west-northwestward, and may make landfall in Eastern Samar on Friday, the state-run weather bureau said.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) on Wednesday, Usman was last spotted 775 kilometers (km) east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur, with maximum winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph), and gustiness of up to 65 kph.
Signal No. 1 may be raised over provinces in Eastern Visayas and the northern part of the Caraga region on Wednesday night or on Thursday morning.
Moderate to heavy rain may be experienced over Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Surigao del Norte, and the Dinagat Islands on Thursday as Pagasa advised residents to monitor for possible flash floods and landslides.
The weather bureau also advised fishermen with small boats not to venture into the eastern seaboards of Eastern Samar, the Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur due to rough seas caused by Usman.
After making landfall in Eastern Samar, Usman will cross the northern parts of Leyte, Cebu, and Panay Island, then the Sulu Sea and Palawan, before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Monday.
Parts of Northern Luzon will continue to be affected by the northeast monsoon or “Amihan” as partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains were expected over Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening. JOVE MOYA
