In a statement on Monday, PTA president Robert Aventajado said one of its committees recommended “an indefinite ban of the student involved from all sanctioned events not limited to Taekwondo-related events, belt promotions, tournaments or facilities of member institutions effective immediately.”
Aventajado also recommended the student involved in the bullying incident undergo counseling while expressing willingness to “lend support through its Taekwondo education and training programs.”
“The aim for this is to allow the individual to own responsibility for his actions, show remorse and contribute positively to society,” he added.
Further, the PTA president said: “Should he or his family decline this option, the PTA will have no choice but to expel the practitioner from the association. Supervised counseling and rehabilitation are conditions for reinstatement.”
PTA will then conduct an evaluation on the student’s compliance after the rehabilitation program and will put the practitioner on probationary status for at least one year.
Aventajado also urged the public to “be mindful of their comments particularly on social media, bearing in mind that the subjects are minors.”
“We truly believe that the best way to move forward from this incident is to provide the child with the necessary guidance and mentorship and an opportunity to exhibit remorse and provide restitution to the community in general,” he added.
The statement of PTA followed Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr.’s call on the Taekwondo association to “disown” the AJHS student involved in the bullying incident.
Meanwhile, the Ateneo administration announced on Sunday it was dismissing the student over the incident. /je
