Cerin emerges as back-to-back PTTC champion

Michael Cerin dominated anew the 2018 Philippine Tough Truck Challenge (PTTC) against a formidable opposition in Barangay Poblacion, Libona, Bukidnon on December 8 to 9.
Coming from the 4Wheelers Davao Team, Cerin bested 49 other racers from all over the country in this year’s PTTC XVIII, garnering a combined time of 21:27.71 in the three, very technical tracks laid out by the Nasfor group headed by Ramon To-Ong and Neil Palabrica.
“I’m very happy to win my second consecutive Tough Truck Challenge this year,” Cerin said during the awarding rites. “This is the most prestigious 4×4 event in the country with a lot of great local and international drivers. This doesn’t happen every day and winning it again is very satisfying! Thank you to all that helped especially my 4Wheelers Davao team members.”
Cerin edged out Altams Altamera of the Cabantian Adventure Team who made a great run with a time of 22:23:90. Eighteen-year old Christian Doyon of Ormoc 4Wheelers finished third with 22:39:28.
Nasfor brought in two champion racers from Malaysia, namely 2018 Borneo Safari first runner up Yap Soon King and three-time Rainforest Challenge champion Cu Xi Chang. Both drivers were on their first trip to the Philippines to promote the Borneo Safari and were given local cars to test the PTTC format. Although both racers failed to make it to the final round, they entertained the crowd with their precision driving and never-say-die attitude. Team Malaysia was awarded the PTTC XVIII Team Spirit Award at the end of the two-day challenge.
In the Production Class with 26 competitors, Junjun Espanola won the Expert category with a time of 12:25:48. Juan Paolo Torreda took the Production Class’ Novice with a time of 10:08:27.
Dennis Garcia bagged the Bernie Bayani Sportsmanship Award while 14-year old Gian Narciso was named Best Young Driver of the event. The Father and Son Award went to Joseph and Joshua Rodriguez while the Best in Engineering plum went to Junar Nolasco. The Show and Shine award was given to CJ Doyon of Ormoc 4Wheelers.
The Philippine Tough Truck Challenge was made possible with the support of Maxxis Tires Philippines, Racetech 4×4 Suspensions, 199 Offroad House, AEG Powertools, FCC Trading, TRE 4×4, ProRock Engineering, ARB, Ride Inc. and Come Up Winch.
