A long stretch of a major thoroughfare in Parañaque City will be closed to vehicular traffic on Sunday for the Metro Manila Film Festival’s (MMFF) annual “Parade of Stars,” the local government said.
The Parañaque Traffic and Parking Management Office said that a huge portion of Dr. A. Santos Avenue (formerly Sucat Road) starting from Sta. Rita Avenue would be closed to motorists at noon for the assembly and preparation of the float parade at 1p.m.
The parade will start at Shopwise in Sucat and will pass through Dr. A. Santos Avenue, turn left on V. Medina Avenue (Kabihasnan), turn right on Quirino Avenue, left on Naia Road then right on Macapagal Boulevard’s eastbound lanes, ending on Bradco Avenue.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), which is the MMFF’s organizer, warned motorists of bottlenecks in the area and bared routes where motorists could maneuver around the traffic jam.
Among roads that will be opened for vehicular counter-flow are the eastbound lanes of Dr. A. Santos Avenue from Soreena to Kabihasnan, eastbound of Naia Road from Quirino Avenue to Macapagal Boulevard, and southbound of Macapagal Boulevard from Naia Road to Bradco Avenue.
The agency said the Airport Road from Roxas Boulevard to Domestic Road will be open to two-way traffic from 1 p.m. until 12 p.m. on Monday.
The MMDA said it was uncertain on what time the roads would reopen and normal traffic flow would resume, noting last year’s parade which ended at about 5 p.m., due to sudden rain.
The City of Parañaque was unanimously selected in March as host of this year’s MMFF by the executive committee of film makers and MMDA officials.
Eight films including Coco Martin and Vic Sotto-led flick “Jack em Popoy: The Puliscredibles”; and “Fantastica” which stars comedian Vice Ganda will parade atop floats around Parañaque, which is celebrating its 20thyear of cityhood.
The MMFF, marking its 44th edition this year, is an annual festivity organized by the MMDA to promote the local film industry in Metro Manila and throughout the Philippines.
