NAIA braces for holiday rush, ups security measures at airport

MANILA, Philippines — The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has been placed under “Security Condition Level 2” by airport authorities as it expects an influx of passengers for the Christmas season.

The Manila International Airport Authority (Miaa) on Tuesday confirmed that the country’s main airport terminal was placed under “Security Condition Level 2” to boost security at the vicinity.

Under “Security Condition Level 2,” motorists going to the airport are required to open car trunks for inspection by security guards at the parking area.

Meanwhile, passengers are required to remove their shoes at the final inspection before the boarding area inside the airport.

The implementation of “Security Condition Level 2” would be until further notice, the Miaa said.

Recently, the Bureau of Immigration announced that 13 electronic gates are currently operating at the NAIA.

According to the Bureau of Immigration the electronic gates would help shorten lines in the immigration areas in time for the holiday rush. /muf
