Skateboarder Margielyn Didal is among the 25 most influential teens named by Time magazine.
The 19-year old Cebu City native is the sole Filipino on the list.
Didal was the first Filipino to compete in the X Games in the US and in the Street League Skateboarding PRO Open in Britain. She later became the first Filipino skateboarder to win a gold medal in the Asian Games in Indonesia.
She told the magazine that she was preparing for the 2020 Summer Olympics, to be held in Tokyo, Japan, and would aim to be the Philippines’ first Olympic gold medalist.
“It’s going to be the big goal in my life to get that gold medal,” she said.
Because of her achievements, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña pledged to build a new skate park, with his sister donating P5 million to the project.
Didal shared the list on her Facebook account. Fellow Asian Games champion and Olympic silver medalist Hidilyn Diaz congratulated her.
Joining Didal on the list are snowboarder Chloe Kim, actresses Millie Bobby Brown and Marsai Martin, and Parkland student activists Emma González, Jaclyn Corin and David Hogg.
