THE Commission on Human Rights (CHR) launched #STANDUP4HUMANRIGHTS on Monday for people to “come together to form a bond in response to the tragedy, violation and adversity.”
CHR Chairperson Jose Luis Gascon said this was part of the Governance in Justice Human Rights Project to “strengthen the National and Regional Human Rights Institutions and Civil Society Organizations’ (CSos) and to promote accountability and fight impunity for major human rights violations.”
The launch also commemorates “70 years of Human Rights” worldwide.
The CHR is an independent National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) created under the 1987 Philippine Constitution on May 5, 1987.
It is mandated to “investigate human rights violations against marginalized and vulnerable sectors of the society, involving civil and political rights.” DANIELLE TAWAT
